Republic of China

The revolution of Xinhai (1912), overtrew Puyi, the last emperor of Qing Dynasty. Then, the revolutionary leader, Sun Yat-sen, returned to China and established the Republic of China (Kuomingtang political party). Then the territory divided and then Yuan Shikai became president because he controlled Qing army in the north. Then Sun Yat-sen returned to be president , but Japan conquered Manchuria (1931), and organized an invasion to China (1937). Japan conquered Nankin and Chineses move to Chongqing. After the 2nd World War, Japan gived up its conquers in Asia and China got Manchuria and Taiwan. But then the comunists organized a rebellion. The comunists defeated the Republic army and took China. Then Kuomingtang (Sun Yat-sen political party) and their supporters went to Taiwan and planned to get the power another time, but that never happened and The Republic of China exists in Taiwan until today.

People´s Republic of China

In October 1st, 1949, Mao Tse-Tung, proclaims the People´s Republic of China. Then, another president named Deng Xiaoping, iniciated changes and reforms that made China improve very fast. Now the president is Hu Jintao.









Tian'anmen

People wanted democracy since 1978 and organized protests in Tian'anmen Plaza. But in 1989, Deng Xiaoping, the president in that period, declared martial law in May 20th and in June 3rd night, he sent the army to delete the protest. The number of deaths according to CIA is between 400 and 800 and according to the Chinese Red Cross about 2600. The number of injured people is between 7000 to 10000.



The Tank Man

The tank man near Tian'anmen, was a person who , when the tanks were moving through an avenue, he didn't let them pass interposing himself in the way. The tanks tried to avoid him but hecontinued interposing them. Then he said something to the tank driver. People think that he said "get away". Then he contunued interposing in the way until some people got him out of the way. Now, we think that person was named Wang Weilin, but we are not sure.
